How does the activated carbon filter work?

Purifying the air and removing odors are important factors in creating a pleasant and welcoming environment in the kitchen, both during and after cooking. For this reason, using a modern extractor hood equipped with the best filtering systems is the best way to guarantee a clean environment, free of fumes, vapors and bad odours.

Activated carbons are plant-based materials with a very porous structure and a large surface area which makes them very capable of absorption. These characteristics make them effective for air purification.

In a recirculation hood, these filters draw in air from the room, filter it of vapors and odors, and release clean air into the room. The activated carbon filter works by collecting the impurities present in the air thanks to the adsorption principle .

Some compounds in the air react chemically with activated carbon, which through its porosity retains odor-causing particles. The air that passes through the activated carbon filters is then purified and can be released back into the room.

How to clean the activated carbon hood filter?

To maintain functionality and prevent germs and bacteria, cleaning the cooker hood is important. The outside can be cleaned with a soft cloth and soapy water, while the metal filters can be washed by hand or in the dishwasher.

However, activated carbon filters cannot be cleaned and must be replaced. Their average life is 3-4 months and replacement should be done accordingly, always using original filters to ensure optimal operation. The duration time also depends on the use of the hood.
